"1989: The Year that Changed Europe - and the World"

Dr. Ivan Berend, former Professor of History at University of California Los Angeles and former director of the International Institute's Center for European and Eurasian studies, will deliver this address. His remarks will form part of the European Union Center of California's commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the Soviet Empire.

 

Deadline for NATO Internship Applications

State of the European Union Address

The State of the European Union is a semi-annual event in which speakers discuss issues relevant to the European Union and provide an assessment of the current situation in Europe. Consul General of Sweden in Los Angeles, Carl-Magnus Hyltenius, will deliver the address. The talk will be followed by a reception at 1:00pm. This event is free and open to the public.

Claremont-UC Undergraduate Research Conference on the EU
Thursday and Friday, April 8-9, 2010

Scripps College, Claremont, CA

The purpose of this conference is to enhance undergraduate training in and knowledge of the European Union and US-European relations. Having completed individual projects, students from each participating institution and their faculty mentors will gather for an interactive conference focusing on European issues and student research. Students will present and discuss their research in a panel format, each panel being composed of three to four students. At the conclusion of the conference, faculty participants will nominate and select the 'best papers' of the conference. Selected papers will be published in a special volume of conference proceedings.

Members of the UC system and the Claremont Colleges are encouraged to apply. Other campuses are invited to submit applications also, although preference will be given to applicants from the UC system and the Claremont Colleges.

Model European Union Simulation

Friday and Saturday, April 23-24, 2010

University of Washington, Seattle

The Model EU is hosted by the European Union Center of Excellence at the University of Washington in Seattle. The Model EU is a simulation of European Council summits that takes place during a member country's presidency. Teams of two undergraduate students play the roles of representatives of EU member state delegations.
