New course offering for Spring Semester 2008:

SCR POL 119a,
The European Policy Process (I)

Professor David M. Andrews

This course examines how different policies are legislated and implemented in the European Union. The course will focus on the policies governing the Single Market, competition (anti-trust) policy, trade policy, EMU (the euro), CFSP (Common Foreign and Security Policy) and ESDP (European Security and Defense Policy).

A different version of this course, SCR POL 119b, will be offered in Spring 2009, focusing on a different mix of policy issues. Both these courses complement SCR POL 102, “Cooperation and Rivalry in the European Union,” which focuses on the historical and institutional development of the EU. SCR POL 102 will next be offered in Fall 2008. SCR POL 102, 119a and 119b can be taken in any sequence.

There are no formal prerequisites to any of these courses, although an introductory class in Comparative Politics is recommended. Please click here for the course information flyer.
